1921- Twenty six counties of Ireland are given dominion status by the British, creating the Irish Free State, while six counties in the north remain under British control.
1921-1923- Civil war in Ireland between the Irish Free State forces and the Irish Republican Army forces who did not go along with the partition of Ireland and Ireland's “dominion” status. The Republican forces wanted to continue the fight for a free, united Ireland.
